Brian Todd Collins aka DJ Rockstar aka Kid Ink is a rapper and producer with a net worth of half a million dollars. Kid Ink got started producing music for other artists and releasing mixtapes before he broke out with the independently released studio album “Up & Away.”
Kid Ink was born in Los Angeles, California, in 1986. He first made a name for himself producing beats as DJ Rockstar. Then, between 2010 and 2011, he released a series of successful mixtapes under the name Kid Ink. These recordings were strong enough to convince XXL Magazine to include Kid Ink in their Freshman Class of 2012 alongside other artists like Macklemore and Danny Brown.
Up & Away
Soon after his XXL feature, Kid Ink dropped his first full-length album, “Up & Away,” on the independent label Tha Alumni. On the lyrical side, the album was a full-on Kid Ink effort with no guest verses, although the musical side of the album included contributions from a number of different producers including Ned Cameron, Cardiak, Jahlil Beats, and the Amazinz.
In 2013, RCA Records picked up on Kid Ink’s success and offered him a record deal. He released his first RCA single, “Bad Ass,” in January 2013. The song featured guest verses from Wale and Meek Mill, and peaked at number 90 on the Billboard 100 chart.
Thanks to the success of “Bad Ass,” RCA encouraged Kid Ink to put out a new release ahead of his upcoming full-length album. This release turned into the “Almost Home” EP, which dropped in May 2013. The EP found immediate success, selling 20,000 copies in its first week in the U.S. alone, and debuting at number 27 on the Billboard 200. Along with Meek Mill and Wale, the album also featured appearances from French Montana and ASAP Ferg.
