Diddy aka P. Diddy aka Puff Daddy aka Sean Combs is a rapper, record producer,
actor, fashion designer, television producer, and all-around entertainment
entrepreneur. He was born in Harlem, New York City, and currently has a net worth
of $585 million.

Diddy got his start as an A&R executive at Uptown records in the early ‘90s. He got
into Uptown through a connection with fellow rapper and childhood friend Heavy D,
who recorded for Uptown at the time, and convinced the Uptown executives to take
Diddy on as an intern.

Music Career

Diddy’s first major move was the launch of his own record company, Bad Boy
Entertainment, in 1993. He had scored some major hits with Uptown as the
executive producer for albums like Mary J. Blige’s “What’s the 411” and Heavy D and
the Boyz’ “Blue Funk.” Despite these successes, however, he was fired from Uptown
in 1992. But this didn’t stop Diddy – he came back with a vengeance the following
year with the launch of the first two albums on the Bad Boy imprint: Craig Mack’s
“Project: Funk Da World,” which later went gold, and the Notorious B.I.G.’s “Ready to
Die,” which was eventually certified double platinum.

During that time, Diddy was also working on his first solo album (to be released
under the name “Puff Daddy.”) However, the release of this album was delayed by
tragedy. At the time, Bad Boy Records was embroiled in the now-famous feud with
Death Row Records. This feud eventually ended, but not before both Tupac Shakur
and the Notorious B.I.G. were brutally and mysteriously murdered.

After mourning the death of his close friend B.I.G., Diddy eventually released his first
single, “Can’t Nobody Hold Me Down” in mid-1997. This hit quickly climbed to the
top of the singles charts and held the top spot for almost two months. Soon after,
his debut album “No Way Out” became an immediate number one Billboard hit, and
won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. By 2000, the album had sold
over 7 million copies.

Other Entertainment Ventures

A man of many talents and interests, Diddy is constantly finding new ways to
reinvent himself. After his professional name change from Puff Daddy to P. Diddy

to straight-up Diddy, he began to branch out into almost every aspect of the
entertainment industry. His Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment company is now
responsible for over $300 million worth of ventures including record production,
marketing, film and television studios, and a fashion line. Here is some of what
Diddy is up to these days:

Bad Boy Records

Diddy’s label continues to put out hit records, including his own albums, as well as
music by newer artists like Machine Gun Kelly and French Montana. The label is no longer an independent venture, however, as it is now 50% owned by Universal Music Group’s Interscope Geffen label.

Cîroc Vodka

Diddy signed on with Diageo, a British company, to promote their high-end vodka brand
Cîroc in 2007.But rather than signing a simple endorsement, Diddy made the deal a
50-50 joint venture, and took over as Cîroc’s full-time brand manager and chief
marketing officer. This appears to have been a good move for Cîroc, as their sales
have grown by 600% since 2007 with Diddy at the helm. And with more than two million
cases of Cîroc sold in the U.S. alone last year, Diddy now takes in a huge annual
profit from his end of the deal. In fact, Forbes has even estimated that Cîroc
accounts for the largest chunk of Diddy’s overall net worth.

Like fellow rappers Dr. Dre, Ludacris, and 50 Cent, Diddy has also launched his own
line of headphones. Diddy’s “Diddybeats” are part of Dr. Dre’s “Beats by Dr. Dre”
line, and were launched in 2010.

Acting Career

Diddy’s film acting career started in 2001 when he appeared in the movies “Made”
and “Monster’s Ball.” More recently, he appeared alongside Jonah Hill in “Get Him to
the Greek,” and he is reported to be working on a new film called “Shoedog” which
will also star Heather Graham and Kris Kristofferson. In addition to film acting,
Diddy has also appeared in a number of television shows, including “CSI: Miami” and
the new “Hawaii Five-0,” and even had a stage role on Broadway in “A Raisin in the

Television Production

As if acting weren’t enough, Diddy has also become a major reality TV producer, and
is responsible for the shows “I Want to Work for Diddy,” and “P. Diddy’s Starmaker,”
as well as seasons 2, 3, and 4 of “Making the Band.”

Blue Flame Marketing

Blue Flame Marketing is a subsidiary of Bad Boy Worldwide Entertainment. Blue
Flame specializes in helping Fortune 500 companies market products to urban,
inner-city audiences. Their projects have included marketing campaigns for Cîroc
Vodka, Guiness, and a number of Hollywood movies.

Fashion Design

Diddy’s own clothing line, Sean John, has been making clothes since 1998, and was
named Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers in 2004

(an award that is commonly regarded as the fashion industry’s highest honour). On
top of that, Diddy now owns Enyce clothing, which he purchased from Liz Claiborne
in 2008 for $20 million.

Diddy formerly owned two upscale restaurants called Justin’s (which were named
after his oldest son). The New York location, however, closed its doors in 2007,
while the Atlanta location was shut down in June 2012. The food industry appears to
be a tough game for rappers, as both Jermaine Dupri and Ludacris have also had to shut down restaurants in recent years.

AQUAHydrate Water

Diddy recently announced that he would be promoting the new AQUAHydrate
bottled water. That means that he has joined Mark Wahlberg and Ron Burkle as the
latest member of AQUAHydrate’s celebrity endorsement team.

Men’s Fragrance

A man who wants to be involved in every part of your life, Diddy even has his own
fragrance so that while you’re listening to Diddy, watching Diddy, wearing Diddy,
and maybe even drinking Diddy, you can also smell like Diddy. The men’s fragrance
is called “Unforgivable,” and was launched in partnership with Estée Lauder in

Latest Venture: REVOLT television network

Perhaps inspired by his long-time friendship and collaboration with MTV, Diddy’s
next venture will be to create a new music-based cable television channel. The
channel, he says, will be highly influenced by social media, and will allow artists new
freedoms to showcase their work without being constrained by the demands of pop

All of these ventures are part of Diddy’s efforts to become what he calls the “black
James Bond” – someone that people look up to in all aspects of life. Diddy has had
his fingers in so many pies that it’s hard to even count how many fingers he has
anymore. And despite the ups and downs of the business world, as well as wins and
losses in several legal battles over the years, Diddy’s estimated net worth remains a
cool $585 million. And, oh yeah, he still makes rap music too.
