Jay-Z Announces New Album ‘Magna Carta Holy Grail’
Jay-Z announced on a commercial during game 5 of the NBA Finals that he will be releasing his 12th Studio Album Magna Carta Holy Grail available for purchase on July 7th. Along with the debut of his new album, Jay-Z will also be partnering up with Samsung to release Magna Carta Holy Grail for free available to the first 1 million Samsung Galaxy users that download the special Magna Carta app available on Google Play. Additionally, users who do download the app will have access to download Jay-Z’s new album on July 4th – which is 3 days before its public release. Check out this cool 3 minute clip on Jay-Z’s new album featuring appearances by Pharrell, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz & executive producer Rick Rubin.
Samsung is said to have spent $5 million on the deal for the album release available only to their Samsung Galaxy users – which earns Jay-Z $5 per album download (with a 1 million download limit). Though $5 million is a very nice chunk of change for Jay-Z, this is only one portion of the deal, with the partnership with Samsung being worth a total of $20 million. This is very interesting because it is in fact the first deal of its kind, that gives Samsung exclusive rights to distribute 1 million copies of Jay-Z’s album before its actual release date. Not only that, but it also innovates and changes the way artists are finding more avenues to get paid outside of music sales alone with all the online piracy happening. Jay-Z is definitely more than just a smart businessman – he is a business, man!
